A quick mental tour of Northern cities' Council Buildings (in my head split into 'domes' and 'clock towers' types) led me eventually to Liverpool. Liverpool Town Hall?
I am a writer and photographer who spends all his time looking at England, particularly buildings and the countryside. But I have a leaning towards the slightly odd and neglected, the unsung elements that make England such an interesting place to live in. I am the author and photographer of over 25 books, in particular Unmitigated England (Adelphi 2006), More from Unmitigated England (Adelphi 2007), Cross Country (Wiley 2011), The Cigarette Papers (Frances Lincoln 2012) and Preposterous Erections (Frances Lincoln 2012)
"Enchanting...delightful". The Bookseller "Cheekily named" We Love This Book
The Cigarette Papers
"Unexpectedly pleasing and engrossing...beautifully illustrated". The Bookseller
Cross Country
"Until the happy advent of Peter Ashley's Cross Country it has, ironically, been foreigners who have been best at celebrating Englishness". Christina Hardyment / The Independent
More from Unmitigated England
"Having raved last year about Peter Ashley's magnificent collection Unmitigated England, I'm delighted to see that he has had the good sense to publish a second volume." Simon Heffer / Country Life

I think Office Pest may have it - in spite of the fact that the photograph cunningly omits the arched lower storey, which foxed me somewhat.
Well done Office Pest. I wish I had logged on earlier...I would have guessed this one! Now I have to go to work feeling homesick...
Congratulations Office Pest! I thought this one might run a bit. I'll have to try harder next week.
