Where's That Then? No 21

In line with Commentator Diplo's request for a monochrome photograph of an Up-to-Date Puzzle Location, I give you....? The only help this week is that it's a location within the borders of my most recent travelling (qv). I didn't stay at this inn, but the place it's in does give rise to many thoughts about the current nature of the contemporary English village. Of which, of course, more later.

Possibly a few too many clues - I hope - you mentioned you were off to The West and the only Salutation I know over there is in Woebley ? I suspect the price of beer's gone up since I was there !!!

Look - I'm sure i've gotthis one, BUT, a shocking statistic is developing. It seems that most of my WTT? successes rely on a public houise or brewery to provide the clues. Is this normal ? Will Igrow out of it? I sit just a phase ?

Blimey Diplo, monochrome really does work for you. Wobbly Weobley it is.

Also a cheaty search of BITE (Beer in the Evening) reveals that there is, in fact, only one pub countrywide with that exact name!

Funny that DC - I reckon there's one in The North - Ilkeston ish, I remember coming across one back in't 70s whilst working at Mapperly Park open cast pit. The Salutation at Wibbly Wobbly was the scene of an extended lunch on the way back from collecting a 500 Matchless & Outfit from somewhere in the Brecon Beacons - can't remember the village but it had a Seven Sisters 'phone number, this'd be around '82/83 I'd guess.

You mean you were that close and you didn't come to see us at Ton Farm?

Diplo: Remember that Wibbly Wobbly's pub is Ye Olde Salutation. There's another Salutation up on the old coach road above Norham on the Northumberland Scottish border.

Tom: So sorry, I'll make it up in Elgood's Black Dog next week!

oh - silly me !

Indeed, BITE lists 16 pubs with Salutation in the name, but only one "Ye Olde...".

The Salutation in Hammersmith is a Fuller's house with easily the best selection of spirits anywhere. Pint of Pride and a Pussers chaser ... can't believe you've not been in Peter .. or perhaps you have and were to p****d to remember!

I do remember Alastair.
