A photograph by John Piper. Obviously best known for his paintings, prints, ceramics, set design and all stations to Fawley Bottom, his photography always repays study. I think, along with Edwin Smith et al, he was one of our finest topographical photographers, shooting on a Hasselblad for the most part and printing up his pictures in the stables at Stonor Park near his home. But where was he on this day?

I am afraid that I don't know where this is but for those interested in Piper there is an excellent biography which is also a biography of his wife Myfanwy by Frances Spalding which is very good and beautifully illustrated.
Looks to me like the Clock Warehouse at Stourport-on-Severn where the Staffs & Worcs Canal links up with the River Severn
I must say I thought Stourport too, based on not having been there since I was 11!
Well done Mr.Howard, and welcome to Unmitigated England. I only discovered Stourport when I did my little English Heritage Pocket Book Grand Unions, and look forward now to returning.
I didn't get Stourport, but I can vouch for the biography of John and Myfanwy Piper by Frances Spalding - superb.
